The novel, Never Let Me Go

The novel <Never Let Me Go> is a representative work of Kazuo Isiguro, one of the leading writers of modern English-American literature. The novel is set in the late 1990s in a world where humans seriously reflecting on life, death and human dignity. Cathy, Ruth, and Tommy, who spent their school days at Hailsham, a boarding school in England, where contact with the outside world is completely blocked, are clones, but have reason and sensibility, and constantly think about the 'source' of being the parent. They hope to extend their lives a little longer while accepting their fate as organ donors.

Through the eyes of the caregiver Cathy, it depicts the love, sex and sad fate of clones that have been cloned for human organ transplantation. It is a novel that asks questions about the dignity of life through the life of a cloned human being who has to sacrifice himself for human desire.

Why did we do all of that work in the first place? Why train us, encourage us, make us produce all of that? If we’re just going to give donations anyway, then die, why all those lessons? Why all those books and discussions?

The ethical problems surrounding the cloned human

Now we need to think about whether we can treat cloned humans as human beings or if we can cut off parts of our bodies just to satisfy our desires. However, it should be recognized that the cloned human mentioned here is a different concept from the cloned organ. The concept of a clone is different from the cloned organ because it itself is a perfect creature. If a part of a human's organs is removed, the cells are differentiated into organs, and implanted into clones, it cannot be considered an ethical problem to kill life. This is because there is no life that dies while using the fragmented organs.

The novel also points out that this is complete problem. Even a cloned product implicitly reveals that if it already has the right composition as a human being, it should be viewed as a human being. The feelings of love felt by the main characters, the thoughts of wanting to be parents, the thoughts of being able to help someone, make them realize again that they are no different from us.

The Realization of the Birth of a Clone

What happened in the movie is now happening in reality. American and Italian scientists say the birth of clones will soon become a reality. In fact, Dr. Severino Antinori, an Italian artificial insemination specialist, said in January 2003 that a cloned human would be born in Serbia, and since then, for the first time in Clonaid history, a cloned human baby was born through Caesarean section. However, Clonaid's announcement of the success of human cloning has raised many questions. Some people are skeptical about the birth of cloned humans, citing the low success rate of mammalian cloning, while others believe it is feasible given the existence of successful cloning of real mammals and the continued announcement of human cloning plans by Clonaid. In addition to this case, various companies and scientists are working together to conduct research on human cloning. However, there is still a lot of controversy over whether it is ethically correct to continue this research on human cloning studies.

Innovative technologies such as human cloning are certainly in the path of development. The extension of human life will be dismissed as the greatest development of mankind. However, once human cloning is fully successful, there is a very poor way to control the human dignity of cloned humans and their response to the ruthless organ extraction and oppression of humans. Therefore, the challenge is to find ways to solve problems related to human cloning that have come to reality.
